Liberty Community Unit School District #2 Opening Plan for 2021-22
In-person Instruction
-
This year learning is in-person all day from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. (JH/HS 3:05 PM)
-
Remote learning is offered to those who must quarantine and only for the time they quarantine.
-
Students will be provided social-emotional support when necessary with an overall focus in the school community to look for indicators from staff and students, along with input from parent social-emotional surveys.
-
Students need to be prepared by having their own school supplies. Be sure to label the supplies with your child’s name.
Morning Arrival Procedures
-
Bus riders will be dropped off at the high school entrance.
-
Drop-offs will enter from the JH and elementary entrances.
-
If possible, students should be dropped off at 7:45 AM.
-
Student drivers will be funneled to the end of the JH hallway.
-
All high school students will park in the gravel lot. Only seniors may park in the front row nearest to the road.
-
School doors open at 7:30 AM. Teachers will be in their classrooms at 7:45 AM.
-
Students will go to the cafeteria for breakfast or to the designated areas as determined by their school.
Dismissal
-
Parents picking up students will pull up and have their child(ren) brought to their vehicle at the elementary doors. This will take some time, so please be patient.
-
A new procedure has been implemented to allow more cars into the parking lot so we do not block neighbors’ driveways.
-
Students who are 5th grade and above will go to the big gym for dismissal. Then, to the vehicles parked in the front row of the gravel lot. The crossing guard will direct the student riders to their vehicles.
-
Older students (5th grade and up) can pick up siblings from the big gym hallway to walk over to the gravel parking lot.
Daily Schedule
Lockers
-
Students will be allowed to visit their lockers during passing periods.
-
Students will be allowed to take bags to classrooms to limit locker usage.
-
Coats need to be stored in lockers.
Lunch
-
Maximum physical distance will be maintained as students move through the lunch line.
-
The cafeteria will be cleaned after each lunch group.
-
Some meals may be grab-n-go.
-
Disposable items will be used at times.
-
No sharing of items (i.e. ketchup packets will be provided rather than using bottles).
-
Microwaves will not be used to avoid congregation and limit exposure, so students need to bring food that does not require heating.

-
Please avoid energy drinks and soda.
-
We will have water bottle filling stations throughout the school building.

Face Mask and Safety Layers
In accordance with Executive Order issued by the Governor:
-
Masks are required.
-
When the Governor’s Executive Order is lifted, masks are recommended.
-
Masks not required outdoors.
-
Layered mitigations in place include cleaning high-touch surfaces, teaching and reinforcing hand hygiene, safe water system, layout of spaces that promote social distancing, and encouraging people to stay home when sick.
Technology
-
All students will have access to a digital device.
-
Wi-Fi is available in the main school parking lot, in the vicinity of the concession stand at the ball fields, and Liberty Park.
-
We have 20 Hotspots that may be utilized by families with poor internet connectivity. Contact your child’s principal to set this up.
Cleaning
-
Classrooms will be thoroughly cleaned each day with products that are effective on COVID and EPA approved.
-
All classrooms will have disinfectant wipes, cleaning supplies, and hand sanitizer available.
Health & Safety
Each of us will play a role in our collective safety.
-
If someone becomes ill with COVID, their identity must be protected by law.
-
Students and staff will have access to disposable face masks. However, they are encouraged to provide their own.
-
Furniture that promotes congregating is not available.
-
Frequent and proper handwashing will be encouraged.
-
Hand sanitizer does not replace hand washing.
-
Use proper respiratory etiquette when coughing or sneezing.
-
Visitors or outside groups will be limited as current conditions will be monitored.
-
Birthday treats must be store-bought and individually packaged snacks. Please no cupcakes.
Bus
-
Families who are in the same household must sit together.
-
Students may only have one consistent pick-up and one consistent drop-off point. However, these can be on two different buses.
-
We are not able to provide transportation for social events such as a group of students going to a child’s house for a sleepover or to accommodate a playdate.
-
We understand when emergencies come up and will work with you, but notification needs to be made by 2:30 PM.
-
Please do not let your child be the communicator for transportation arrangements. We must hear from an adult through a note, phone call, or email. It is best to do more than one!
-
If bus transportation is needed, be specific as to whether this is for AM, PM, or both.
COVID Symptoms/ Illness
Symptoms
-
Symptoms to look for include fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills, fatigue, muscle & body aches, headache, sore throat, any new loss of taste or smell, congestion, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
-
Students experiencing symptoms will be isolated from others in a different room other than the Nurse’s Office.
-
Students are to be picked up directly from the Nurse.
-
Students exhibiting symptoms of COVID are sick and need to stay home.
-
We need parents to be very conscientious of sending possibly sick children to school. We have several cases where this could be a significant risk to students and staff. Thank you!
-
Students need to be fever–free (less than 100 degrees) for 24 hours before attending school, without any fever-reducing medication.
-
Any student with a temperature of 100 degrees will be sent home.
Confirmed Cases of COVID
-
Those showing signs of COVID will exit out of an exterior door and not walk through the hallway.
-
Students showing symptoms may be tested with parent permission.
-
The Adams County Health Department will be contacted for all concerns we have regarding COVID.
-
As always, keep school informed of all sicknesses, including testing positive for COVID.
-
Confirmed cases of COVID will need to quarantine per IDPH guidelines and will be able to Remote Learn during this time.
Close Contacts
-
Close contact is within 6 feet and 15 minutes of unmasked people or 3 feet and 15 minutes of people masked, per state guidelines.
-
If close contact occurred with an individual who is a confirmed positive case of COVID, parents/guardians will be notified.
-
The Adams County Health Dept. will be doing the quarantining this year, not school.
-
The school will be offering testing on site performed by the school nurse, in hopes of keeping staff and students at school when they do not have COVID.
-
This testing will only be conducted if the parent/guardian gives both written and verbal permission. More info. will be coming on this process.
-
Two reasons to test: Keep from quarantine from a close contact (known as Test to Stay or 1,3,5,7 test) and to rule out COVID when showing symptoms.
Remote Learning during Quarantine
-
Parents are responsible for contacting the school regarding a child being quarantined and set up a plan to learn during this time.
-
We will try to accommodate instruction and communicate how this will be done on an individual basis.
-
Materials will be sent home as with all illnesses.
-
Teachers may have your student attend class through Google Meets.
Prepare to Change
As with all plans, things will change, but we appreciate the support of our school families working through this with us. We will be in regular contact with the Adams County Health Dept. and do our best to keep students and staff safe. Continue to check social media and our website for any additional changes to this plan. This plan was developed by staff, parents, and board members.
