Given all the IT-related projects we'll be tied up with for most of the summer, (Skyward in particular), we plan to allow the students currently in grades 6 - 11 to take their Chromebooks home over the summer. Collecting roughly 300 devices, sorting and storing them (and keeping them charged), and then getting them ready for redistribution is a major task and we will not have the resources to effectively deal with that process this year.
During the summer of COVID in 2020 our students kept their devices and we had minimal issues at the start of the new school year. We're hopeful that we can have a repeat of that experience. One benefit is that students should have their devices available to them on the first day of school.
We are creating a 'Chromebook Check-in' Google form that students will need to complete before the last day of classes to provide an impromptu inventory. This form will also be linked on their Chromebooks.
Before any long-term storage, the Chromebook should be fully charged and then powered down completely (not just closing the top cover) to help ensure that the battery does not fully discharge over the summer. We'll send a reminder in early August to again charge the device to be ready for classes on August 18.
Thanks for your cooperation and support.
