Spotlight on Kristen Cassens

Liberty School is proud to shine a spotlight on several staff members throughout the school year.  Staff members’ names have been drawn at random.  They will be featured monthly both on a bulletin board at school as well as in the local newspaper.  This month’s Spotlight is on Kristen Cassens.

Kristen Cassens has been at teacher at Liberty School for 10 years.  She is a graduate of Warsaw High School and Illinois College.  Kristin comes from a family of educators.  Both of her parents were also teachers.  Kristin says her favorite part of being a teacher is working with a fun and caring staff.  She also loves spending each day “with the amazing kids here at Liberty!”  Kristin’s least favorite part of her job is getting up early.

Kristin says her funniest memory as a teacher at Liberty School is when her class did a skit on popular commercials during the school talent show.  The students used props and costumes, and they became very involved in their performance.  The audience loved their funny skit.  Another great memory Kristen has is when her class won a food drive competition.  As part of the class’s reward, she was taped to the wall at an assembly in front of the entire elementary school.

Kristin enjoys reading mystery and biography books, and her favorite bird is the blue jay because, “they are smart and have a beautiful song.”  In her free time Kristin enjoys going to baseball games, especially games at Wrigley Field.  Yes, she is a huge Chicago Cubs fan.  She collects Cubs memorabilia and angels.  If she won a million dollars, Kristin says she would buy a new house, pay off her college loans, and start a college fund for her son.  “A trip to Australia might be nice, too,” says Mrs. Cassens.

Something Kristin would like to change about the world is to give schools more funding, “so we could add new programs, update our building, and reinstate field trips”.

Kristen and her husband Justin live in Camp Point.  They have one son, Jackson Cassens, who is sixteen months old.  Kristin loves to sing, and she can play several different musical instruments.

For your contributions to our school and community, Mrs. Cassens, we say “Thank you!”
